National Cartoonist's Day.

1945- Happy Birthday Yosemite Sam! Hare Trigger, the first cartoon to feature the red mustachioed desperado premiered.

1953- Broadway Director Jerome Robbins was riding high after directing hits like On the Town andKing & I,when he was labeled a Communist. To save his career, this day he testified before Joseph McCarthy’s House UnAmerican Activities Committee and named names. One actress he finked on, Margaret Lee said” I’ve just been stabbed by a wicked fairy”.Ironically, Jerome Robbins went on to direct two of his biggest hits “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forumand the Fiddler on the Roofusing blacklisted actors like Zero Mostel, Beatrice Arthur and Jack Gilford, who all hated him.


1968- Albert Dekker, character actor and star of movies like Dr. Cyclops, was found dead in his bathtub, handcuffed, ballgagged, noose around his neck and wearing ladies lingerie. A narcotics needle was sticking in his arm. The police declared it an “ auto-erotic episode that had gone wrong."

1975- Anne Rice’s hit novel The Interview With The Vampire first published.

1983- At a regional Comicon, the first edition comic of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtlescame out and sold out within two hours.  

2006- Walt Disney Company formally acquired Pixar Studio.
